ABOUT OKLAHOMA RUGBY

The University of Oklahoma Rugby Club was founded in 1974 and is a Registered Student Organization with the University of Oklahoma. We are also a member of the University's Sports Club Council. We have a long history of winning and championships in both 15's and 7's, and have numerous all-Americans and USA Eagles.  We devote equal energy to both 15's and 7's competitions and strive to be the best at both codes.

At the University of Oklahoma, it is possible to combine an education at a top tier university’s with one of the nation's best rugby programs. The OURFC is interested in individuals who are serious about their education and committed to becoming the best rugby players they can be.

Oklahoma is a member of the Red River Rugby Conference and competes with the other 8 schools in the conference which is part of the larger Texas Rugby Union. The OURFC has dominated collegiate play over the last four and a half decades and regularly finds itself competing in the College Rugby Championships each spring.

We’re coached by South African Blikkies Groenewald who coached Russia in the World Cup, the current World Champion South Africa Springboks, and Rugby Super League team Pretoria Blue Bulls.  Now he is the Head Coach at OU. He has written seven books on rugby and has coached over 30,000 rugby players in his forty-year career from kids to stars.
